Curtis and Larry Try To Explain The Shenanigans And Secrets Of The Beltway

It sounds like the makings of a soap opera script, but it’s real life in Washington DC. On Monday, the Eric Swalwell scandal brought down the U.S. Representative who had a respectable shot at being elected Governor of California. By Tuesday, U.S. Senator Ruben Gallego of Arizona was nervously explaining what he knew of his friend Swalwell and when he knew it; meanwhile, Texas Representative Tony Gonzalez stepped down from his post in the wake of the revelation that he had an extra-marital affair with an aide, who later committed suicide.

710 WOR’s Curtis Sliwa and Larry Mendte in the Morning program broke down the latest developments and fallout of the shenanigans in Washington; what started out as a relatively straight-forward layout of a Beltway scandal turned into a heated debate about political skeletons in the closet.

Curtis used a New York-centric analogy to back up his contention that dirty little secrets are the lifeblood of politics in Washington, including who knew what on Eric Swalwell: “This is my belief, is that they have an attitude- I’ll give you one that’s local, in New York. There used to be a term, ‘Whatever happens north of Bear Mountain stays north of Bear Mountain’, meaning Albany, the Democrats and Republicans who would go up there, all kinds of hanky-panky. I truly believe there is a culture of this on the Hill and in the Senate where they don’t rat out one another.”

Larry then stepped up to defend members of the House and Senate whom he feels have their eye on the ball- which brought on a fit of laughter from an apoplectic Curtis: “Before we condemn the entire Senate and Congress, since I know many of them, they’re good people… [Speaker of the House] Mike Johnson is maybe the best person I know. He’s a really, really good person, very religious person, very moral person. I’m sure he is incensed by this.”
