Everyone at one point in their lives has damaged their cell phone by getting water in it, and while technology has improved greatly in recent years, it is still important to act fast to limit any damage. The common home remedy has always been sticking the phone in some rice and letting the dry grains pull moisture out of the phone, but is there a better solution? Rich DeMuro, host of ‘Rich on Tech’ on WOR Sunday nights spoke with Curtis Sliwa and Larry Mendte in the Morning about his tip for water damage.

“There have been some studies that rice does help,” DeMuro told hosts Sliwa and Mendte. “but next time you get a box with that [silica] gel, keep them; keep them in a zip lock and next time your phone gets wet put your phone in that.”

DeMuro says that even with all of these tips, todays phones can handle some water: “I don’t think the rice is as absorbent as you might think but today’s phones by the way are pretty good at handling water, not for long extended periods of time but you can splash them, it’s no big deal.”
