Mamdani Executive Order Blocks Events In NYC During World Cup

In an effort to ensure safety during the summer months when NYC will experience an even greater influx of tourists, Mayor Zohran Mamdani has signed an executive order denying new permits for gatherings of 20 or more people, during the duration of the Fifa World Cup tournament. While the directive came at the request of the NYPD, some are saying that it wouldn’t be an issue if Mamdani allowed for more hiring to the cities police department. Curtis Sliwa and Larry Mendte in the Morning spoke about the decision by the mayor, and why they disagree with it.

“This is our 250th birthday, so there are a lot of pre-activities leading up to it, which is a hell of a lot more important than the World Cup,” Sliwa said to co-host Larry Mendte. “That has to be challenged in court, that is absolutely nuts.”

Sliwa can’t understand how Mamdani is messing this situation up: “We were supposed to make some money from all of this, all these rich tourists coming in; we’re expected to lose $40 million because the mayor is obsessed with soccer.”
