In retaliation to the missile strikes over the last month from the United States and Israel, an Iranian backed hacker group has begun using the popular app ‘Telegram’ to launch cyber-attacks. Recent intel has shown that the app is also used by high ranking Iranian government officials to communicate, which also leaves them open for cyber-attacks. Rich DeMuro, host of ‘Rich on Tech’ on WOR Sunday nights, spoke with Curtis Sliwa and Larry Mendte in the Morning about the safety issues with that app.
“I am actually surprised that high level government officials are using this because it is not end to end encrypted by default,” DeMuro told Sliwa and Mendte. “It means that other people could potentially see the messages that are exchanged on this platform.”
DeMuro further explained apps with better safety for users: “If you look at iMessage, if you look at WhatsApp, if you look at Signal, which is a popular among government officials, those are all end to end encrypted; that means that nobody, not even the developers of that app, are able to see anything you exchange inside that app.”
