The rise of Uber, Lyft, and other ride share apps has been a blessing to some, but a huge problem for yellow cab drivers in New York City. Many New Yorkers have opted against using the Big Apple staple in recent years, even as the prices of the other methods have risen. Natalie Migliore, WOR Reporter, hit the streets of NYC to talk to the people about what makes them choose other taxi services over the classic yellow cab.
“If you use [Uber, Lyft, etc.] consistently, you get a lot of promos,” one person told Migliore. “A lot of the cabs have been using meters; they’ve been using topsy turvy turns in the streets, trying to go the wrong direction causing the miles go higher, and also its harder for us to track it as well,” another person told Migliore.
The other rising form of transportation is self-driving cars but one person in NYC is not onboard with the new trend: “Self-driving? Absolutely not. Anything can go wrong. Absolutely not.”
