Why Have The Media And Politicians Ignored The Murder Of Sheridan Gorman?

It has been one week now since 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman, a Westchester girl attending Loyola University in Chicago, had her life senselessly ended before it truly began as she walked on a Lake Michigan beach late at night with some of her friends. She was stalked and shot once in the back, allegedly by Jose Medina-Medina, a Venezuelan illegal alien who has been staying in the United States since 2023.

In the week since Gorman’s murder, numerous politicians in Illinois have diverted their attention or ignored the story altogether; one Chicago alderwoman even blamed Gorman as leaving the gunman ‘startled” when he shot her. Worse yet, the university’s student newspaper, The Loyola Phoenix, issued an apology to Medina-Medina for labeling him as an “illegal alien” in a story about the murder. Perhaps the most shocking thing, however, has been the lack of outrage by local officials in New York, as one of the citizens they claim to serve was senselessly cut down before she entered the prime of her life.

A community vigil will be held in remembrance and celebration of Sheridan Gorman at Jack DeVito Veterans Memorial Field and Track, 208-264 Veterans Road in Yorktown Heights on Saturday at 6pm. 710 WOR’s Curtis Sliwa and   Mendte in the Morning program was one of the few media outlets in New York to offer any recognition to Sheridan Gorman, offering equal parts of sorrow and disgust.

Curtis focused his ire and disbelief at Loyola University for issuing a retraction to the school paper article: “So, whoever is in charge of the school- probably a lay person now; there aren’t that many Jesuits- you then force the student newspaper to retract the story, and your big anger isn’t at your local officials for not protecting the children, less of whom are going to be enrolled in your school now because of this horrible murder, but you want that ‘illegal alien’ reference removed? That’s your biggest beef? Shame on that Jesuit school! Shame on them.”

Larry voiced his indignation at Westchester area politicians for having the wrong priorities: “Chris Murphy, the Senator from Connecticut, in our listening area, said on the national news- this sounds like I made it up- ‘The people we care about the most are undocumented Americans’. That was it. That’s what the Democrats care about, and you want to vote for them in the mid-terms? You want to put them back in office?... The way they’re treating 18-year-old deceased Sheridan Gorman, who was just a beautiful human being who was at the beginning of her life, is disqualifying.”
