The Department of Education has released initial guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence in New York City public schools but limitations on how the teachers and students can use the technology. Parents have been asked to share feedback on the plan before the DOE fully implements the plan. Natalie Milgiore, WOR Reporter, hit the streets of NYC to talk to people about their thoughts on this plan and if they think using AI in schools will be good in the classroom.
“Artificial intelligence is good for certain things, but in school I don’t know how I feel about it right now,” one person told Migliore. “If the teacher is driving the force behind it then that’s one thing but if it’s the other way around, I don’t want to be told what to do by a computer or artificial intelligence,” another person told Migliore.
One person was concerned that the increased use of the technology could be detrimental to the brains of students that are growing and developing: “If you don’t use your brain, you’ll lose your brain.”
