You probably recognize actor Bobby Cannavale from one of the dozens of appearances he has made in TV series like “Boardwalk Empire” and “Nurse Jackie” or in feature films like “The Bone Collector” and “The Irishman”. The smokey-voiced 55-year-old New Jersey native copped an Emmy for his Boardwalk stroll as a Roaring 20’s mobster and scored another for a guest actor appearance on the sitcom “Will and Grace”. He is now proudly watching his oldest son Jake follow in his thespian footsteps. Cannavale appeared on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program to discuss his latest turn, in the Prime Video series “Scarpetta”, which is based on the popular Patricia Cornwell book series and debuts March 11th.
Cannavale told host Ken Rosato, sitting in for Larry Mendte, that the best thing about the project is acting alongside Jake: “Patricia Cornwell has been writing these books for over 20 years, 120 million copies sold, about the chief medical examiner character, named Kay Scarpetta, played by Nicole Kidman… along with her detective partner, Pete Marino, who I play, and it’s just a really good genre, a thriller. It goes back in time thirty years, so we can see how our careers got started, and my son Jake Cannavale plays me at thirty, which is a thrill… He’s been paying his dues and working his way up, and when they asked if I knew anybody who would be good to play me at thirty, it was a no-brainer. I’m just thrilled for him.”
Cannavale also recounted the story of his younger son, for whom he passed up going to this year’s Golden Globe Awards with his significant other, actress Rose Byrne- when she won best actress: “I was at a reptile expo with my youngest, because we promised him, he was dying to get a pet, and specifically a reptile, specifically a bearded dragon, and so I went to a reptile expo with him, which just happened to fall on the same fay as the Golden Globes… I could not break that promise, they only have these things twice a year… He’s thriving and he’s a magnificent creature; I feel like I own a dinosaur.”
