Zohran Mamdani campaigned on offering many services for the people of New York City and his plan to pay for it was by raising taxes on the richest in the city. Mamdani himself cannot do that however, and the state has already denied his request, so he has now threatened to raise property taxes in the city in order to make up some of that deficit. Nicole Malliotakis, U.S. Representative for New York’s 11th Congressional District, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about the Mayor and his plans for the city.
“It's just unconscionable to me that number one he wants to increase spending, number two he wants to increase taxes,” Malliotakis said to host Larry Mendte. “This just shows you Marxism is not going to make New York City more affordable; it’s going to make it actually less affordable.”
Malliotakis thinks these plans will hurt those in the city that Mamdani said he wanted to protect: “If you’re a person struggling right now to pay your mortgage, to pay your property taxes for a modest home… you’re the ones that are going to get hurt by Mayor Mamdani.”
