The direction of the Democratic party in recent months has been taking a strong stance against much of what Donald Trump does, but especially against ICE. New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill recently announced how her state will be pushing back against the federal agency, but it is a much stronger stance than the one she took while on the campaign trail. Mike Kelly, award winning columnist for NorthJersey.com and The Record, spoke with Mendte in the Morning how the New Jersey Governor is balancing both sides of her party.
“Governor Sherrill is walking a very very fine line here,” Kelly told guest host Ken Rosato. “During the campaign, as you may recall, she really side stepped the issue of whether the state would try to prevent federal authorities from arresting anybody for immigration issues in New Jersey.”
Kelly believes Sherrill’s strong stance against ICE now is in attempt to keep support from a broad portion of her party: “I think now she’s really trying to hold on to the left wing of her party.”
