Zohran Mamdani recently got in front of reporters and made a call to raise taxes on the wealthiest citizens of New York City, citing a massive budget deficit. Mamdani blamed the previous leaders of the city and the state for the issue, but not everyone believes his concerns over the budget. Melissa DeRosa, Democratic political strategist, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about why she is among those who don’t.

“It was a jaw on the ground moment, like he just discovered that there was this deficit and it was hiding all this time and of course the culprit was Eric Adams… and evil Andrew Cuomo who by the way hasn’t been in office in 5 years,” DeRosa told host Larry Mendte. “It was just the most absurd performance art I have ever seen.”

DeRosa believes that the only people buying what Mamdani is saying are his most loyal supporters: “What we saw was an Academy Award-winning performance. I think it didn’t go over well; I think it played to some of his fans but anyone with a brain in their head saw right through what he was doing.”
