New York Could See A Bigger Snowstorm This Weekend- Or Maybe We Won't

The winter storm that punched much of the country in the face last weekend has come and gone. New York, like so many other cities in its path, now has heavy snow to clean up everywhere, and with bone-chilling temperatures in its wake, that won’t make the job any easier. Now, forecasters say the possibility exists for an even greater storm in a few days which makes that storm system look like mere flurries. Considering the timing, it sounds like a Groundhog’s Day joke gone awry- are we looking at a devastating winter storm for the second weekend in a row? Ray Stagich is the Weather Channel meteorologist who tells listeners of 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program what to expect as they head out the door for work during the day and how to plan for the weekend. He definitively told listeners that the snow might be worse this time around… unless it proves to be a false alarm.

“Right now, it’s looking like there will be a storm,” Stagich told host Larry Mendte, “but the question, Larry, as you probably know at this point, is where and how much, if anything. Both of the major models keep it just offshore from the tri-state, so that means as it goes up the coast and starts heading northeast as a nor’easter, it could actually be the further south you go, maybe south Jersey, Delaware and into the eastern Carolinas that are actually impacted… but as of today, it’s a miss.”

Ultimately, Stagich finally admitted it’s too early to tell what the storm has the potential to do: “Especially for east of the I-95 corridor, if it ends up with the right track, it’s a full-blown nor’easter with the wind element to it and the heavy snow… the potential is there, but the best we can do on a Tuesday is yes or no. It’s 50-50 right now.”
