Inauguration Day in New Jersey is tomorrow and with it the Garden State will officially change over from Phil Murphy to Mikie Sherrill. While many soured on Murphy during his first term, it came as a surprise to some to see another Democrat win the state, so the question becomes if Sherrill will lead the state differently than Murphy before her. Micah Rasmussen, Head of the Rebovich Institute for NJ Politics at Rider University, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about the change and what we can see between the two Governors.
“Phil Murphy has been undoubtedly the most progressive New Jersey Governor we’ve had in history,” Rasmussen told guest host Ken Rosato. “[Mikie Sherrill] may not be moderate enough for some… but she campaigned much more in the mode of trying to stake out that middle ground.”
Rasmussen believes that Sherrill will keep good on what her campaign to be closer to the middle than her predecessor: “We’ll see how she governs but I think she’s going to go more towards the middle than Phil Murphy did.”
