January is National Blood Donor Month as it is typically a time of lower donation numbers due to the weather and illnesses in the winter months. Blood donations are always necessary however and the situation is so dire at the moment that we are currently in a blood emergency according to New York Blood Center. Sarah Horn, Marketing Manager at New York Blood Center, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about how someone can go about donating blood to help the supply and potentially save a life.

“You can go to NYBC.org and once you come to that website then you can just put in your zip code and it’ll search and it’ll show you all the local drives in your area or the local donor centers in your area,” Horn told host Larry Mendte. “We run drives every single day… so we make it very accessible to people in their local community to come out and be able to give blood.”

Horn explained what the designation of a blood emergency means: “Blood emergency means that we have less than a 2 day supply of blood to supply over 200 hospitals in the tri-state area.”
