Outgoing New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is set to deliver his final State of the State Address on Tuesday at 3 p.m. from the Assembly Chamber at the New Jersey State House in Trenton. Murphy, who is term-limited, will be succeeded by Democrat Mikie Sherrill.

Reflecting on his eight years in office, Murphy expressed pride in the progress made under his leadership. "It has been the highest honor of my life to serve as Governor of our great Garden State," Murphy stated. "Together, we have built a New Jersey that is stronger and fairer than ever before."

Murphy's address marks the end of his tenure as governor, during which he focused on creating a fairer New Jersey. His successor, Mikie Sherrill, will take office on January 20. Breaking from tradition, Sherrill will take her oath in Newark instead of Trenton. Her inauguration will be held at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Essex County, her home county.

The address will be livestreamed, allowing residents to witness Murphy's final remarks as governor. NJBIZ reports that Murphy's term has been marked by significant legislative actions, including a recent bill restricting student cell phone use during school hours.
