Luigi Mangione, accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, is back in a New York City courtroom today for his pretrial hearing. The court is deciding which evidence will be admissible in his trial. Over the weekend, a judge approved a "to-do list" as evidence, which prosecutors claim is linked to the murder.

Mangione, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, was arrested on December 9, 2024, at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after a five-day manhunt. His defense team is arguing that evidence obtained during his arrest, including a 3D-printed gun and a handwritten checklist, was gathered illegally. According to Rolling Stone, the checklist allegedly included plans for an "intel check-in" and purchases from Best Buy.

The case has attracted significant public attention due to its connections to broader issues such as the U.S. healthcare system, gun violence, and wealth inequality. According to The Guardian, Mangione's actions have sparked debate, with some viewing him as a folk hero standing against the for-profit healthcare industry.

The pretrial hearings are currently focused on the state charges against Mangione. The federal case, where prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, is set to continue in January. As Fox Baltimore reports, Mangione is charged with second-degree murder after terrorism charges were dismissed in September.
