New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has appointed more than 400 individuals to his transition team, a diverse group tasked with advising on personnel and policy decisions. The team will work across 17 committees, including Housing, Transportation, Community Safety, and Government Operations. Notably, Mamdani has introduced two new committees: Worker Justice and Community Organizing, reflecting his commitment to supporting working-class New Yorkers.

The transition team, comprising leaders from various sectors such as government, nonprofits, and academia, aims to address urgent issues like housing affordability, childcare costs, and transportation access. According to Empire Report New York, Mamdani emphasized that the appointees share a dedication to New York City's potential and his affordability agenda.

Transition Executive Director Elana Leopold stated, "Excellence is the guiding light driving this transition," highlighting the team's role in preparing the administration to tackle the city's challenges effectively. The committees will be overseen by co-chairs Lina Khan, Grace Bonilla, Maria Torres-Springer, and Melanie Hartzog, who bring over 50 years of combined experience in city governance and social services.

The new administration, set to begin on January 1, 2026, seeks to deliver on the promises made during Mamdani's campaign. The transition team will play a crucial role in ensuring the city government operates efficiently and aligns with the incoming mayor's vision for a more affordable New York City.
