Art and memorabilia from the late actor Gene Hackman are now up for auction in New York City. Bonhams is hosting "The Gene Hackman Collection: A Life in Art," which features modern and American artworks, as well as cinematic memorabilia from Hackman's career. The auction offers a glimpse into Hackman's life as both a collector and an artist.

The live auction, taking place on Wednesday, includes 13 pieces by renowned artists such as Milton Avery, Auguste Rodin, and Richard Diebenkorn. Highlights include Avery's "Figure on the Jetty," estimated at $500,000 to $700,000, and Diebenkorn's "Green," estimated at $300,000 to $500,000. Hackman, who lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico, was an active arts patron and served on the board of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum.

In addition to the live auction, two online sales will feature Hackman's own paintings, books, scripts, and posters. Among the items are three Golden Globes, including awards for "Unforgiven" (1993) and "The Royal Tenenbaums" (2002). The online auctions run from November 8 to 21 and November 25 to December 4.

Hackman, known for his roles in films like "The French Connection" and "Unforgiven," retired from acting in the mid-2000s to focus on writing and art. He passed away in February at the age of 95. The auction provides a rare opportunity for collectors to engage with Hackman's creative legacy.
