Tennessee Governor Bill Lee is inviting New York City business owners to consider relocating to Tennessee following the election of Zohran Mamdani as the city's new mayor. In a video posted on social media Tuesday, Lee highlighted Tennessee's strong economy, low taxes, and minimal government regulation, emphasizing that the state is "open for business."
Lee's invitation comes after Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist, won the mayoral race with a platform that includes free public services and higher taxes on wealthy residents and corporations. Some New York residents have expressed concerns about potential tax increases and the economic impact of Mamdani's policies.
Governor Lee did not mention Mamdani by name but referred to the city's "recent election results" as a reason for his outreach. He emphasized Tennessee's reputation as a top destination for businesses and families, citing the state's lack of a personal income tax and recent relocations by major firms, including Oracle.
In his video message, Lee also expressed support for law enforcement and highlighted Tennessee's cultural and business-friendly environment. He stated, "If you're looking for an opportunity, you found one in the state of Tennessee."
Lee's message is part of a broader effort to attract businesses from higher-tax states, positioning Tennessee as a prime location for those seeking economic opportunity and security.
