Two people have died after severe storms caused major flooding across New York City on Thursday. A 39-year-old man was found unconscious in a flooded basement in East Flatbush, Brooklyn. According to police, the man was attempting to save one of his dogs when he became trapped. The FDNY Scuba Team retrieved him from the water, but he was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital. A friend of the victim, Akiva, described him as "a very pure, simple person" who was known for his generosity.

In a separate incident, a 43-year-old man was found unresponsive in a flooded boiler room in Washington Heights, Manhattan. The NYPD Emergency Service Unit removed him, but he was declared dead at the scene. Both incidents are currently under investigation by the police.

The heavy rainstorms have led to widespread flooding issues throughout the city, with residents expressing growing concerns over the city's infrastructure. As reported by ABC News, residents like landlord Renee Phillips are increasingly worried about the impact of rainstorms, stating, "Every single time it rains, my heart and pressure goes up because I know what to expect."

The flooding has raised questions about the city's preparedness for such events, with calls for improved infrastructure to prevent future tragedies. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding both deaths.
