Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has endorsed Andrew Cuomo in the city's current mayoral race and backed his support with a $1.5 million donation to a pro-Cuomo superPAC. Bloomberg, who was elected mayor twice as a Republican, had previously supported Cuomo in the Democratic primary. This recent donation adds to the $8 million Bloomberg contributed to Cuomo's campaign in June.

Cuomo, who is running as an independent, faces a challenging race. Two recent polls show him trailing Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani by 10 points. Despite this, Bloomberg's endorsement and financial backing could provide a significant boost to Cuomo's campaign.

Mamdani, who was born in Uganda and moved to the United States at age seven, has dual citizenship with the U.S. and Uganda. His campaign has been marked by controversy, including a resurfaced interview with his mother, filmmaker Mira Nair, who described her son as "not an American at all." This has sparked discussions about Mamdani's identity and political stance.

The race for New York City mayor is expected to intensify as Election Day approaches, with both candidates vying for support in a city known for its diverse and dynamic political landscape.
