The first weekend in November means weather that’s perfect for a running aficionado on a weekend morning- not too hot, crisp air with a slight breeze, perhaps. Now, imagine taking that morning run with about 50,000 other runners for about two or three hours. Now you have a sense of the breadth of the TCS New York City Marathon. The race has taken place since 1970; the 2025 edition of the Marathon takes place on November 2nd, starting at the Verrazzano Bridge in Staten Island and winding 26.2 miles through the five boroughs to the finish line in Central Park. Ted Metellus is the New York Road Runner’s Chief Event Production Officer and race director of the TCS New York City Marathon. He spoke with 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program about some of the things we can expect to see and hear about the spectacle that is Marathon Sunday.

Metellus described for host Larry Mendte a few of the new things runners and racing fans can expect to see from the Road Runners this year: “Here through iHeart, we’re sharing the race experience through [a running] channel, streaming the race through our NYRR app, which is a year-round app; that’s a new component that we have this year. We have 2,500 runners [who are] 40-plus that are the fastest in the world that are participating in the age-group world championship, and that’s going to be a race within itself as well. We have some new transportation components that we’ve elevated, we have the Good Morning America talent relay that’s happening celebrating 50 years of that program, so yeah, [there are] a couple of things.”

Yet even with all the new elements, Metellus says the prep for race day hasn’t changed from year to year: “We’ve been planning and preparing this coming marathon since last marathon, and we are now in the tapering stages, just like our runners. We're feeling good and getting ready for a good day, getting our last-minute things prepped and ready to go for a great Sunday, November 2nd.”

WOR will be covering the TCS Marathon from various points on the race course, including the finish line, on Sunday, November 2nd, starting at 8am.
