North Jersey Congressman Josh Gottheimer is urging President Trump to reverse his decision to terminate the Gateway train project. Speaking at the Glen Rock train station on Thursday, Gottheimer described Trump's decision as "rash, impulsive, and ridiculous." He emphasized the project's importance for infrastructure, jobs, and the economy.
Gottheimer, along with fellow Democratic congressmembers and labor leaders, highlighted the potential negative impact of halting the Gateway Project. According to Gottheimer's statement, the project is crucial for maintaining and improving the tunnels that thousands rely on daily. He expressed concern that the cancellation would affect tens of thousands of jobs and American competitiveness.
The Gateway Project, funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, was intended to address the deteriorating conditions of existing train tunnels. Gottheimer, who helped negotiate the funding, is calling on both Republicans and Democrats in New Jersey and New York to join him in opposing the cancellation.
Gottheimer's criticism of President Trump's decision is part of a broader effort to protect the Gateway Project. He has consistently advocated for the project's continuation, citing its importance to the region's transit infrastructure and economy. As the debate continues, the future of the Gateway Project remains uncertain.
