In New York City, Jamel McGriff, 42, is set to be arraigned on Tuesday for the alleged torture and murder of an elderly couple in Queens. According to ABC7NY, McGriff is accused of forcing his way into the Bellrose home of Frank and Maureen Olton, aged 76 and 77, under the pretense of charging his cellphone. Once inside, police say he tortured the couple for hours before setting them on fire.

McGriff, described as a career criminal, was arrested in Times Square. He faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, robbery, burglary, and arson. If convicted, he could receive multiple consecutive life sentences. The Queens District Attorney's Office reports that McGriff has a lengthy criminal record, including a 16-year prison sentence for armed robbery, and is a level 3 sex offender.

Initially, it was believed that Frank Olton allowed McGriff into his home. However, surveillance footage revealed that Olton had asked McGriff to wait outside while charging his phone. The footage also captured Olton ordering McGriff to leave. The victims' family has requested privacy during this time.
