The New York Yankees suffered another tough loss against the Toronto Blue Jays, falling 13-7 in Game Two of the American League Division Series on Sunday. The Blue Jays now lead the best-of-five series 2-0, with the series shifting to Yankee Stadium for Game Three.
Rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage was the star of the game for Toronto, setting a Blue Jays postseason record by striking out 11 batters in 5 1/3 no-hit innings. According to ESPN, Yesavage's performance helped the Blue Jays build a commanding lead, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hitting the first postseason grand slam in team history. Daulton Varsho also contributed significantly, going 4-for-5 with two home runs and two doubles.
The Yankees struggled to contain Toronto's powerful offense, which has scored 23 runs in the first two games of the series. Yankees ace Max Fried allowed seven runs in just over three innings, marking a difficult outing for the left-hander.
Despite the loss, Yankees manager Aaron Boone remains hopeful. He stated, "I know we'll show up and be ready to go expecting to win Tuesday night." The Yankees will rely on Carlos Rodón to extend their postseason run in Game Three against Toronto's Shane Bieber.
The Blue Jays are on the verge of their first American League Championship Series appearance in nearly a decade. Game Three will take place at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday at 8:08 p.m. ET.
