The Yankees are on their way to Toronto, as they reached the American League Division Series after defeating the Boston Red Sox 4-0 in the Bronx on Thursday. Rookie pitcher Cam Schlittler delivered a standout performance, pitching eight scoreless innings and striking out 12 batters while allowing only five hits. This victory marks the first time since 2003 that the Yankees have eliminated the Red Sox from the playoffs.
Schlittler, a 24-year-old right-hander who grew up a Red Sox fan in Walpole, Massacusetts, made history by becoming the first pitcher in MLB history to pitch at least eight scoreless innings and record 12 strikeouts without allowing a walk in any postseason game. His performance was described as "electric" by Boston manager Alex Cora, and Yankees captain Aaron Judge praised Schlittler as "something special" according to Sportsnet.
The Yankees capitalized on misplays by the Red Sox in the fourth inning to score all four of their runs. Amed Rosario and Anthony Volpe each contributed to the Yankees' scoring effort. Game One of the ALDS is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 4:00pm in Toronto as reported by The Peak.
The Yankees and Blue Jays finished the regular season with identical records, but Toronto secured the AL East title due to their 8-5 edge in the season series. The upcoming series will be the first postseason meeting between the two teams according to CBC.
