Sean "Diddy" Combs is in a lower Manhattan federal court today, awaiting sentencing after being convicted on two counts of transportation for prostitution. In July, a jury found Combs guilty under the Mann Act, which prohibits transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution.

The prosecution, led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christy Slavik, is seeking a sentence of over 11 years, citing Combs' history of violence and lack of remorse. Slavik emphasized that Combs' actions involved more than just transportation for prostitution, highlighting the abuse suffered by his former girlfriends, including Cassie Ventura and another woman referred to as "Jane" during the trial. Slavik argued that the court should send a strong message that such crimes will be punished.

Combs' defense team, however, is pushing for a much lighter sentence of no more than 14 months, including time already served. They argue that the court should not consider evidence from charges for which Combs was acquitted, such as racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion. The defense also released a documentary-style video showcasing Combs' charity work and family life in an attempt to influence the court's decision.

Judge Arun Subramanian has indicated that he does not see a reason to deviate from the sentencing guidelines, which suggest a prison term between just under six years to just over seven years. However, the judge retains discretion to adjust the sentence. Subramanian noted that while Combs was acquitted of some charges, the related conduct may still be considered in the sentencing decision.

The courtroom is filled with reporters, supporters, and members of the public. Combs, dressed in dark pants and a light-colored sweater, has maintained his innocence and expressed a desire to move on from the case. The final sentence is expected to be announced later today.
