The latest polls to come out of New Jersey for the Gubernatorial race show a tight race as both candidates, Mikie Sherrill and Jack Ciattarelli, are sitting at 43% of the vote. Despite those numbers being the same, they are much better for one candidate than the other one. Micah Rasmussen, Director of the Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about what the numbers mean and why one side should be happier with those results.

“Mikie Sherrill’s vote share, 43%, is the same as her party’s registration in the poll… [Ciattarelli] Is hitting significantly above his party registration,” Rasmussen told guest host Ken Rosato. “Which strongly suggests that at least in this poll he is getting the lion’s share of the unaffiliated voters.”

Rasmussen believes that this latest poll could mean more good news for Ciattarelli in the future: “If momentum is really on his side, if he’s closed [the gap], then momentum may continue to be on his side.”
