An attempted robbery at New York's Penn Station on Wednesday ended with an off-duty police officer shooting the suspect. The incident unfolded during rush hour as a husband and wife, both off-duty NYPD officers, were boarding a Long Island Rail Road train. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Jahmar Stewart, allegedly attempted to rob the husband, leading to a scuffle. In response, the wife drew her firearm and shot Stewart in the arm and stomach.

Stewart, who resides at a Brooklyn shelter, has a history of arrests, mostly for assault and menacing. He was transported to Bellevue Hospital and is expected to recover. Stewart has been charged with assault and attempted robbery, according to amNewYork.

The couple was returning home after working security at the United Nations General Assembly. The shooting surprised commuters, who witnessed police attending to the wounded suspect on the platform. The incident is part of a recent string of attacks involving off-duty officers in New York City, as reported by ABC7NY.
