In New York City, police detained nearly 50 demonstrators on Tuesday during protests near the United Nations headquarters. The activists, protesting against President Donald Trump, attempted to block Second Avenue but were unsuccessful. According to the NYPD, 48 summonses were issued for disorderly conduct.

The protests coincided with President Trump's speech at the UN General Assembly, where he criticized the international organization for not addressing global crises effectively. During his address, Trump accused the UN of failing to fulfill its potential and touted his administration's achievements in resolving international issues.

ABC7NY reported that the protesters held signs with messages like "Trump is the emergency" and "Arrest Trump." The demonstration was part of a series of planned protests aimed at voicing opposition to Trump's policies and rhetoric.

The New York Post noted that the protests included chants of "No Trump! No fascist USA!" and featured a large inflated figure of the "South Park" character Cartman.

Despite the detentions, the protests were largely peaceful, with demonstrators released after receiving summonses. The events highlighted ongoing tensions surrounding President Trump's approach to international relations and his criticism of multilateral institutions like the United Nations.
