Lawyers for hip hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs are advocating for his release from custody when he is sentenced on October 3 in Brooklyn, New York. They have requested a sentence of no more than 14 months, which would equate to time already served since his arrest. Combs was found guilty in July of charges related to transportation for prostitution but was acquitted of more severe charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking, which could have resulted in a life sentence.

In their submission to Judge Arun Subramanian, Combs' attorneys argued that the jury's decision to acquit him of the most serious charges should influence the sentencing. They emphasized that Combs' career and reputation have been destroyed, and he has already faced significant consequences, including the loss of business opportunities and personal hardships for his family. Combs' lawyers highlighted that he has spent over a year in a notorious jail and has used this time to become sober for the first time in 25 years.

Prosecutors, however, are expected to recommend a longer sentence than the four to five years initially considered. They argue that Combs' actions warrant a harsher penalty. The defense counters that Combs did not profit from the crimes and that his actions involved consenting adults. Combs' legal team also stressed his commitment to leading a law-abiding life and continuing treatment for substance abuse and anger management.

The case has drawn significant attention, with the defense portraying Combs as a victim of overzealous prosecution, while prosecutors depict him as a dangerous individual. The judge's decision on the sentencing and any potential legal motions remains pending.
