Starting Monday, October 6, Metro North will introduce new "super-express" trains on the Hudson Line, reducing travel time between Poughkeepsie and New York City's Grand Central Terminal to under 90 minutes. This new schedule, announced by Governor Kathy Hochul, will cut commute times by about 15 minutes each way, offering a faster and more efficient service for Hudson Valley commuters.
Governor Hochul highlighted the benefits of the new service, stating, "Delivering better, faster Metro-North service to Hudson Valley commuters will propel economic growth across our state and improve quality of life." Initially projected for 2026, the project was completed ahead of schedule, allowing the faster service to begin this October. The new trains are part of a broader initiative to improve rail service across the region, including potential future enhancements like additional tracks and connections to Penn Station.
The new "super-express" trains are part of the Metro-North Railroad's efforts to provide quicker and more reliable transportation options. According to Governor Hochul's announcement, these improvements are designed to enhance the overall commuting experience, saving riders time and contributing to the region's economic growth.
The new schedules also include additional services, such as the return of "Leaf Peeper" trains for fall foliage enthusiasts and increased service for major holidays. The Metro-North Railroad President, Justin Vonashek, emphasized the improvements, noting that they build on the railroad's record-setting reliability and are just the beginning of further enhancements.
