An internal poll conducted by the New Jersey-based National Research firm shows Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli with a narrow one-point lead over Democrat Mikie Sherrill in the New Jersey governor's race. The poll, conducted from September 16 to 18, surveyed 600 likely voters and found Ciattarelli leading 46% to 45% in a two-way race, with a significant 21-point lead among voters not registered with a party.

The poll marks the first time Ciattarelli has been shown leading in the race, as reported by the New Jersey Globe. Previous polls, including a Quinnipiac University poll, have consistently shown Sherrill with a lead, with the latest indicating an 8-point advantage for her.

The National Research poll also highlighted that term-limited Governor Phil Murphy's approval rating is underwater, with 35% approval and 53% disapproval. This internal poll contrasts with public polls, which have generally shown Murphy with even or slightly positive approval ratings.

Despite the close numbers, the poll results come with the typical caveats of internal polling, which campaigns often release strategically. With mail-in ballots already sent out and the first gubernatorial debate scheduled for next Sunday, the race remains highly competitive. As the election approaches, both candidates continue to engage with voters across New Jersey, addressing key issues such as taxes and government ethics.
