A recent Marist poll reveals Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani leading the New York City mayoral race with 45% support among likely voters. Former Governor Andrew Cuomo trails with 24%, followed by Republican Curtis Sliwa at 17%, and incumbent Mayor Eric Adams at 9% support. The poll, released Tuesday, also indicates Mamdani would defeat Cuomo in a head-to-head matchup, 49% to 39%.
Mamdani's campaign focuses on affordability, resonating with voters as 88% believe New York City is not affordable. His lead is bolstered by strong support from Democrats, with 58% backing him compared to Cuomo's 23%. Sliwa garners 54% support among Republicans.
The Marist poll also explored scenarios without Adams and Sliwa, showing Mamdani maintaining a lead over Cuomo, though the gap narrows. Despite Cuomo's attacks labeling Mamdani as a socialist, Mamdani's support remains robust, especially after receiving endorsements from key figures like Governor Kathy Hochul.
While Mamdani holds a commanding lead, the race remains dynamic, with potential changes if candidates drop out. According to ABC7NY, Mamdani's campaign continues to gain momentum, with endorsements potentially influencing undecided voters.
