A construction worker died after a parapet wall collapsed on him in Cypress Hills neighborhood on Tuesday. The tragic incident occurred at a one-story garage located at 113 Sunnyside Avenue, which shares a lot with a six-story building. The victim, a 58-year-old man, was working on the roof of the garage when the parapet wall fell on him. Emergency responders used an aerial ladder to remove him from the wreckage, but he was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital.

The Department of Buildings (DOB) is investigating the collapse. Inspectors did not find any damage to the roof or the interior of the garage, but they issued a full stop work order for all construction and repair activities at the site. Additionally, a partial vacate order was issued for the garage roof area where the incident happened. The property owner received a violation for failing to maintain the structure, according to ABC7NY.

The DOB's investigation into the incident is ongoing.
