The New York Police Department (NYPD) has identified 42-year-old Jamel McGriff as the suspect in a tragic incident where an elderly couple was killed and their home set on fire in Queens. The incident occurred on Monday in the Bellerose neighborhood. Police describe McGriff as armed and dangerous and are actively searching for him.

According to police, surveillance footage shows McGriff entering the home of Frank and Maureen Olton, aged 76 and 77, respectively. Inside, McGriff allegedly stabbed the couple, searched the home for valuables, and then set it on fire. The Oltons were found dead later that day, with Mr. Olton discovered tied to a pole in the basement with multiple stab wounds, and Mrs. Olton severely burned on the first floor.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that there appears to be no prior connection between McGriff and the victims. McGriff, who has a lengthy criminal record, was released from prison in 2023 after serving 16 years for armed robbery. He is also wanted in connection with two more armed robberies this summer.

The NYPD urges anyone with information on McGriff's whereabouts to call their Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). They advise the public not to approach McGriff if seen.
