As the twenty-fourth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks approaches, people across the United States are being encouraged to participate in a unique commemorative activity. Beth Hillman, the President of the 9/11 Museum and Memorial in New York, is asking individuals to capture and share photos of the sky taken on September 11th, using the hashtag #RememberTheSky. This initiative aims to honor the memory of the nearly 3,000 victims of the attacks by recalling the clear, beautiful sky that many remember from that day.
An art installation at the 9/11 Memorial features nearly 3,000 tiles, each in a different shade of blue, symbolizing how people perceived the sky on that tragic day. The installation serves as a poignant reminder of the lives lost at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
In addition to the commemorative activity, security measures are heightened in New York as the anniversary approaches, with police on high alert due to potential terror threats. Authorities are reportedly focusing on protecting key infrastructure such as the East River bridges and tunnels linking Manhattan and Queens.
The initiative by the 9/11 Museum seeks to bring people together in remembrance, offering a way to reflect on the past while fostering a sense of unity and collective memory.
