A recent "New York Times/Siena College" poll shows Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani leading the New York City mayoral race with 46% support. Former Governor Andrew Cuomo trails with 24%, while Republican Curtis Sliwa and incumbent Mayor Eric Adams hold 15% and 9%, respectively.
The poll indicates that if Sliwa and Adams were to exit the race, their supporters might shift to Cuomo, potentially tightening the race between Cuomo and Mamdani. Both Sliwa and Adams have stated they have no plans to withdraw from the contest.
According to ABC7NY, Mamdani has a strong lead among voters under 50, with a 29-point advantage over Cuomo. However, the gap narrows to six points among voters over 50. The poll also highlights that 85% of Mamdani's supporters are committed to voting for him, compared to 72% for Cuomo.
The survey reveals that New Yorkers are concerned about the economy and threats to democracy, with these issues ranking as top priorities. The poll was conducted with a sample size of 600 active voters and has a credibility interval of +/- 3.9 percentage points.
