Why Are CDC Workers Walking Out?

There is confusion atop of the Center for Disease for Control after Director Susan Monarez was fired by HHS Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr. earlier in the week over disagreements on directives. Kennedy has defended the firing but not everyone is on board with that decision. Rick Klein, ABC News Washington Bureau Chief, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about the response to Kennedy’s decision.

“We’ve seen resignations and demonstrations, a walk out at the CDC headquarters in Atlanta over these policies,” Klein told host Larry Mendte. “These are public health professionals, doctors, who say they’re being forced into taking essentially political fans or rejecting science.”

Klein is unsure how much can be changed despite the public opposition: “Bobby Kennedy is the HHS secretary; a lot of members of Congress including senators who confirmed him are really concerned about this, but the executive branch has a lot of power in cases like this.”
