Joe Borelli Has Two Websites Ready For Post-Election Day: Zillow And U-Haul

Labor Day is just a few scant days away. That means the morning air will be a little crisper, the children will go back to school, and the New York City mayoral campaigning will finally pick up. But will the campaigns matter much if current trends hold up? Democratic front-runner Zohran Mamdani seems to be taunting his opponents’ lackluster efforts with a scavenger hunt through the five boroughs, independents Andrew Cuomo and Eric Adams appear to be stuck in neutral, and GOP candidate Curts Sliwa is currently almost an unmentioned “oh, yeah”. Former New York City Council Minority Leader Joe Borelli has been watching the race from the sidelines of city politics. He appeared on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program to talk about what he is bracing himself for on Election Day.

Borelli laid out for host Larry Mendte the routine he expects to see: “Every day I read about the New York City mayoral election news of the day, and then I immediately go to Zillow and start looking at properties… New York has always had a good relationship with upper middle-class to very wealthy individuals. They’ve paid for almost everything in this city, but they’re willing to pay higher taxes and the higher cost of living because New York City was great. It was great for a long, long time. The minute that ratio does not exist anymore, you will see upper middle-class people, wealthy people continue to flee this city. I will be one of them, I assure you that, because I’m already getting the pressure from my dear Mrs. Borelli.”

Borelli is still pulling for Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa to pull the miracle out of his beret but has a realistic “lesser of two evils” approach in place for November 4th: “When you hear about these things, in this environment, that [Mamdani] wants to create, it’s not conducive. That’s why I told you last week or the week before that, whoever’s in second place going into late October, that’s who’s going to get my vote.”
