Meet The Man Who Made It Clear Staten Island Is Not Backing Mamdani

Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani took his “Five Boroughs Against Trump” campaign to Staten Island last Wednesday- and it may suffice to say that future Mamdani events in Staten Island will not be popular, as he was greeted with jeers and Trump signs during the visit. Prominent among those greeting him in the crowd was Staten Island-based artist and activist Scott Lobaido, who used a megahorn and a stream of F-bombs to announce his displeasure at seeing the self-declared socialist who is still leading the mayoral field. Lobaido appeared on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program to explain why he feels Mamdani is the least-qualified candidate in the running.

Lobaido told host Larry Mendte that despite being arrested for using a megaphone without a permit, he had time to accomplish what he set out to do: “Honestly, [the cops] gave me half an hour with that megaphone. I’m told the opposition really puts the pressure down and then [the cops] have to do what they are hired to do, you know, it’s the law. ‘Scott, give us the megaphone or we’re going to have to arrest you.” And I’m like, I’m going to take that chance, I need to use this megaphone, and so they did what they were supposed to do. So everything’s good, it’s all good, it is what it is. But the beauty is that he saw my face, and more of us were at that gathering than the people were there to see him. That was the beauty of it.”

Lobaido feels the majority of Mamdani’s supporters will come to their senses by Election Day: “The young kids that are lost, they fall for him, but that’s a fraction… Democrats, liberals and independents who have businesses, families, properties, investment in the city, are going to look at this little Communist who will destroy this city like nothing that’s ever happened in this country before and they are going to say, ‘Absolutely not!’.”
