What Are Americans Looking For In Their Politicians?

Donald Trump bucked a trend of career politicians reaching the top of the American political mountain when he won the Presidency for the first time in 2016, but some believed that the United States would fall back into their old ways for good after Joe Biden won in 2020. When Trump won again in 2024 it showed that the American public still prefers a change from the status quo when electing the head of the country. Reagan Reese, White House correspondent for The Daily Caller, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about the most recent Presidential election and where that trend may take us.

“I think what the 2024 election illustrated… Americans are sick of just typical politicians, they want an outsider,” Reese told host Larry Mendte. “That’s why you see these names like Stephen A. Smith, Mark Cuban, etc. come up as potential contenders to run for the White House in 2028.”

Reese believes both parties are guilty of trying too hard to push their base towards certain candidates: “The GOP has almost been trying to force voters to choose anyone but Trump over the last 4 years and the voters said no…it’s almost like the elites in DC … choose who is going to run for President and that’s who they install.”
