An off-duty federal officer was shot on Saturday following what seems to be a robbery gone wrong. While the officer is in stable condition, the alleged robber’s background has sparked conversation as he is an undocumented immigrant with multiple previous arrests. Natalie Migliore, WOR Reporter, went out on the street for Mendte in the Morning to talk to the people of NYC about if they feel safe in the city with its currents immigration, and law enforcement policies.

“I feel safe in the city; I’ve never had an issue in the city,” one citizen told Migliore. “I have teenage girls and I don’t feel safe,” another person told Migliore.

One person told Migliore that they believe the city’s policies probably need some tweaking before they reach a good place: “There’s a balance [you’ve] got to strike I think between allowing people in that have refugee status… and then the increasing blight that you might see on the street.”
