Waymo has recently looked into testing its self-driving vehicles in New York City but is currently unable to start that project in full affect as New York State Law requires a human safety driver. The self-driving cars have been implanted in other major cities around the country such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta, and Austin. Natalie Migliore, WOR Reporter, went out on the street to talk to the people of New York City to see how they felt the possibility of self-driving cars being used as taxis across the five boroughs.
“Self-driving cabs in New York City is probably not a good idea,” one citizen told Migliore. “It just seems unnecessary, I think it puts people out of work,” another person told Migliore.
One person is concerned about the safety risks of a self-driving vehicle in such a crowded area: “Theres just too much going on and nobody’s paying attention to anything but themselves and I can’t see how a computer can handle that.”
