Phil Murphy narrowly beat out Jack Ciattarelli in the New Jersey Gubernatorial election in 2021 and New Jersey Democrats will be forced to nominate a new candidate with Murphy reaching his term limits. Following the massive shift right that the country took in the 2024 Presidential election, Democrats have tried find the right message to gain favor but so far, those running for NJ Governor have failed to find their audience. Mike Kelly, award winning columnist for NorthJersey.com, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about the mistakes that NJ Democrats are making.

“What the Democrats are missing, what I think is the heart of the conversation with New Jersey voters today… it’s all about kitchen table issues,” Kelly tells host Larry Mendte. “It’s not just about taxes, it’s about the roads we drive, they’re horrible, it’s about the transit system that continues to break down and looks like a rust bucket.”

Kelly believes that New Jersey residents may be getting fed up with their Democrat-run state government: “The Government doesn’t seem to be functioning in a way that it should, and I think voters are starting to notice that.”
