A recent survey shows that 3 of 4 veterans are living with symptoms of PTSD and that 4 of 5 report feeling isolated. It is always important to focus on supporting mental health, but as May is Mental Health awareness month, and our veterans are amongst the bravest in the world there is extra importance being focused on this issue. Walt Piatt, CEO of Wounded Warrior Project, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about working with veterans to make their lives after serving easier.

“Most warriors will do two things consistently; they won’t ask for help, and they won’t take help,” Piatt told host Larry Mendte. “Breaking that barrier to having someone understand that they can connect and once we get that connection then we get them; they’re starting that journey home, and they understand it.”

Piatt wants to make sure that these veterans are experience happiness once they come home from service: “It shouldn’t be harder to come home from war than it is to go to war, but it is.”
