Astorino: What Happens When "The Big Shark" Finally Jumps Into The Pool?

Election Day is still eight months away, yet the race to snag the top slot on the Democratic ticket for Mayor of New York may soon get very crowded. Embattled Mayor Eric Adams believes he can survive the negative headlines and scandals and secure a second term. Long-time city politicians like Jumaane Williams, Brad Lander and Scott Stringer have expressed their interest in the job. City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams has filed paperwork that would indicate she’d like a crack at the corner office in City Hall. Yet, quietly lurking in the shadows, is disgraced ex-Governor Andrew Cuomo. Will he jump in over the weekend?

Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino will analyze the potential field in depth on The Rob Astorino Show at 4pm on Saturday on WOR, but he took a few minutes to join Larry Mendte on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program to discuss the job that so many Democrats hope to call theirs when the polls close on November 4th.

Astorino believes Mayor Adams most likely has just one name to worry about replacing him: “There’s too many of them on the left, so they’re all going to eat into each other’s base, and they’re never going to get close to the hump, so [for Eric] Adams, that’s good for him that he’s got so many on the left chewing each other up. The biggest problem is the big shark right now who’s going to get into the race [this weekend]… People are forgetting that Andrew Cuomo is responsible for everything that everyone is complaining about. He was in charge, he cowered to the far left, and he signed the legislation, and now he’s going to try to forget it, pretend it didn’t happen.”

For Adams to win a second term, Astorino says he should just stick to the course he’s been on recently: “He’s got to continue to be tough on crime… because that’s the lane that Cuomo’s going to take. He knows the polling, he knows the city, he knows what’s worrying people, and he’s going to try to come in there and put the sheriff’s badge on and make everybody forget everything else.”
