One City Councilwoman Says Let The Voters Decide On Adams, Not The Governor

Who steps into the power vacuum that would be in the mayor’s office at City Hall if Governor Kathy Hochul decides to remove an embattled Eric Adams from his post? The governor has said publicly that she will wait until a judge reviews the DOJ decision to drop charges before deciding on removing Adams, and while Public Advocate Jumaane Williams would take over by law, there is still a long list of candidates waiting to step up if Adams steps down. New York City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino (R-19) appeared on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program to remind people why leaving Adams in office is another option.

“Think about the citizens of New York,” Paladino told host Larry Mendte. “What follows Eric Adams if, God forbid, they are allowed to remove a man just for simply agreeing with the President of the United States and ICE to give them a room at Riker’s Island so that they can remove the most violent criminals this city has ever seen? Think of the lunacy that’s attached to this. There was no call for removing him when these charges were first brought against him months ago. Everybody sat [quietly]. There were a few people with outrage here and there- big deal! This is all political.”

Paladino feels the citizens of New York should ultimately be the judge and jury that decides whether to oust or save Mayor Adams. “This was a duly elected mayor.  We have an election coming up. If the people don’t want him in again, he will lose his primary. There should never be Kathy Hochul or any governor with no cause whatsoever to remove a sitting elected official.”
