As we celebrate Valentine’s Day it is important to look out for romance scams as they are one of the most popular pitfalls for victims of fraud. As technology continues to improve, these scams are becoming more believable and more successful. Rich Demuro, host of WOR’S “Rich on Tech” (Sundays from 8-11pm), spoke with Mendte in the Morning about the use of AI in scams and why people are falling for these traps.
“The telltale sign of any scam is really the poor use of English and punctuation,” Rich tells host Larry Mendte. “When AI comes on board, you can literally put whatever you’re trying to scam people into AI, and it’ll polish it up.”
Rich also noted that there is an obvious reason for people falling for these scams: “You can’t believe it but it happens; people are lonely. We have a loneliness epidemic in America right now.”
