Despite being a Democrat, New York City mayor Eric Adams has seen his name pop up in recent weeks alongside those of some high-profile Republican politicians. He came to the defense of President-elect Donald Trump when reporters accused him of being a Nazi, he met with incoming border czar Tom Homan about allowing ICE to arrest and deport migrants with criminal records, and on Tuesday night, Adams had dinner in a Manhasset restaurant with Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman. Blakeman appeared on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program to discuss how the soiree went.
“Well, first of all, Mayor Adams and I were supposed to get together many times over the last year,” Blakeman told host Larry Mendte. “This dinner was a long time coming. We had a beautiful discussion about politics and about regional issues. We talked about crime. We talked about gang violence. We talked about transportation. We talked about economic development. And then, of course, whenever you get two politicians together, there was the usual political gossip about the usual suspects in political life.”
While Blakeman couldn’t talk specifics about some of the things that came up over dinner, he did mention that he and Adams both talked about funding for various projects- and how one group in particular is getting a larger piece of the pie. “Well, we all need funding because of the migrant policy of the Biden Administration. Here in Nassau County, my police overtime is up, even though I hired almost 300 police officers in the last three years. It’s a terrible stress on New York City; it’s a terrible stress on New York State. Why in the state budget was there $2.4billion for migrants who came here illegally? They’ve been here for fifteen minutes, and we need to rebuild our hospitals, we need to spend more on education, we need to spend more on our infrastructure. I mean, I have an aging sewer system here in Nassau County, and we’re trying to get federal funds.”
